I feel like AI needs a section of its own these days. The changes over the last 6-8 months with agentic development has been a wild ride, but I feel like I’m at a point where I have control over the new ways of working enough to not be constantly worried about my job. Still feels like software engineering as a career path is either going to revert back to ~2021 levels of demand, or implode entirely within the next two years, but I guess we will see what the future brings there.

Running & Fitness

My routine for now feels very solid, I have a weekly plan that I stick to fairly religiously and I can definitely see the improvements. Having a structure like this helps me massively in the way I approach things. It’s along the lines of Steve Jobs’ decision-fatigue concept; knowing what I am doing on a given day (at least high-level) makes it easier to avoid skipping runs or workouts because I don’t have capacity to decide what to do.

What Am I Reading

Think Like an Anthropologist by Matthew Engelke, and The Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri (Robin Kirkpatrick translation)

Think Like an Anthropologist was a Secret Santa gift that I received about eight years ago, and never got around to reading. I find these sorts of books very interesting, but not always easy to get into. Anthropology isn’t a field I have any experience with, so I feel like I’m learning quite a lot even at this surface-level book. The Divine Comedy is likewise something I’ve wanted to read for years now; I don’t have any experience of medieval Italian literature though, so it’s slow going, but equally I find it very engaging to switch gears into something like this.
